Reinette Senum
Reinette Senum is the founder and president of GenSeven, a nonprofit based on the Seventh Generation Principle, an Indigenous philosophy that holds that every decision made today must serve the next seven generations. That principle has guided everything she has done.
In 1994, she became the first woman to traverse 1,500 miles across Alaska alone in winter--an expedition she documented for National Geographic. She went on to serve two terms on the Nevada City (CA) City Council, including two terms as mayor. In 2020, she was among the first and most vocal elected officials in California to publicly challenge Governor Newsom's statewide mask mandate. She subsequently ran for governor of California in 2022 as an independent candidate, campaigning on long-term thinking over short-term politics.
Her most recent work has taken her into atmospheric science, federal environmental law and a years-long investigation into what is really happening in our skies and what the law requires to address it. That investigation is what brings her to this stage.
