Bernadette Pajar

Bernadette Pajer is an advocate for informed consent and scientific integrity in public health policy. She is a former board member of Informed Choice Washington, now serving as a policy advisor, has worked with Children's Health Defense in Washington State and Tennessee, and is now the volunteer Tennessee director of Stand for Health Freedom. As a private citizen, she's at her state capitol every week during session, supporting health freedom legislation and opposing bills that threaten freedom. She has developed working relationships with legislators and while always outnumbered by lobbyists, has witnessed the power of constituents to hold their elected officials accountable to them and their oath of office. Her experience has allowed her to truly understand the depth of the mindset capture of our elected officials by industry and that the only way to prevent our nation from becoming a full-fledged corporatocracy is for citizens to start showing up in the offices of their elected officials.

PRESENTATION

LOBBIED BY DEFAULT: HOW YOUR SILENCE SHAPES PESTICIDE POLICY

FRI., OCT. 16 AT 4:00 PM

By the time a pesticide liability shield bill appears on your radar, lobbyists have spent months — sometimes years — cultivating relationships with legislators, shaping their opinions, and writing the very bills those legislators will sponsor. This talk traces the history and current status of pesticide liability shield legislation, what it means for public health, and what it means for the constitutional right of every American to seek justice in court. Real examples of relationship-based advocacy will demonstrate why showing up between legislative sessions matters as much as testifying during them — and that an informed citizen in a legislator's office is the most powerful counterweight to a well-funded lobby.
